Bolt
Food, one of Africa’s leading food delivery platforms has expressed its
intention of exiting both the Nigerian and South African markets as fierce
competition within the online food delivery space intensifies.
This
means Bolt customers in these countries will no longer have access to online
food delivery services offered by Bolt.
On
Thursday, the 7th of December, 2023, Bolt Food will officially
draw down the curtains on its operations, a decision according to a Bolt
spokesperson in a statement was a “difficult decision.”
Having
entered South African and Nigeria within the same year 2021, Bolt Food aimed to
carve a niche for itself in the rapidly growing food delivery industry.
However, citing business reasons, the company has opted to discontinue its food
delivery service in these countries.
“The
decision to exit this market is necessary to streamline our resources and maximize our overall efficiency as a company. This means our users will not be
able to place Bolt Food orders through our food app from 8 December.”
The
company adds it remains fully committed to its other verticals in the two
countries, and will continue to focus on delivering quality services to its
customers.
Bolt
Food SA is currently available in Cape Town and Johannesburg. In Nigeria, it is
available in Lagos.
Despite
the withdrawal, Bolt reassures its commitment to the South Africa and Nigerian
markets, emphasizing that the company will continue to concentrate on
delivering quality services in its remaining operations.
