Samsung Electronics Co.
has announced its plan to launch the next flagship device, likely named the
Galaxy S24, on January 17 in San Jose, California, through a live-streamed event. The teaser for the launch hints at the introduction of "Galaxy AI."
While previous years
focused on camera improvements and flexible displays, 2024 is expected to
spotlight enhanced AI capabilities in smartphones. Counterpoint Research
estimates that over a billion smartphones with built-in generative AI will be
shipped by the end of 2027.
OpenAI's ChatGPT and
DALL-E tools, known for generating text and visual responses, are leading the
generative AI trend. This trend has contributed to Nvidia Corp. reaching a
trillion-dollar valuation by providing crucial AI-training accelerators.
The next phase in
advancing this technology involves integrating it into devices, a concept
emphasized by US chipmaker Qualcomm Inc. Samsung and Qualcomm are identified as
immediate leaders, with Counterpoint researchers predicting Samsung to dominate
with nearly 50% market share for the next two years. Other key players include
Chinese OEMs such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Honor, and Oppo
