Kenya and Iran discuss ICT cooperation

Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry Information, Communication and Digital Economy, Eliud Owalo has met with the Deputy Minister of ICT of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Honorable Mahdi Hakami, to explore potential areas of collaboration aimed at fostering international cooperation in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

 Accompanied by a high-level delegation, including the Iranian Ambassador to Kenya, Ali Gholampour, and CEOs of prominent Iranian ICT companies, Minister Hakami expressed his country's interest in investing in Kenya's ICT infrastructure and local production of ICT devices.

Joining CS Owalo in the fruitful discussion were key Kenyan stakeholders, including PS ICT, Eng. John Kipchumba Tanui; Secretary of E-government and Digital Economy, Mary Kerema; CEO of Konza, John Paul Okwiri; Chief Financial Services Officer of Safaricom, Esther Waititu; and Chief Commercial Officer of M-pesa Africa Limited, Felix Kamenga.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged ideas on how their countries can work together to enhance ICT development, sharing experiences and expertise to drive growth and innovation.

Both countries also identified potential areas of cooperation, including investments in infrastructure, local production of ICT devices, and capacity -building initiatives.

This meeting marks an important step in strengthening the ties between Kenya and Iran in the ICT sector, paving the way for future collaborations that will benefit both nations.
