A recent report by the
Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) reveals a consistent increase in the number
of 5G chipsets throughout 2023, with a slower but steady growth rate in the
first four months of 2024. The report also highlights a 5% increase in 5G NR mobile
processors and platforms and a 3% rise in 5G modems this year.
Seven major semiconductor
companies offer commercially available 5G products, with 90 mobile processors
and platforms and 19 discrete 5G modems identified by GSA. Additionally, five
pre-commercial 5G processors and modems are in development.
The report also focuses
on 5G chipset capabilities, including support for standalone networks, with 81%
of commercially available 5G chipsets supporting 5G standalone networks.
Moreover, 19 chipsets support voice-over New Radio (VoNR).
The report further
highlights trends in LTE modem chipsets, VoLTE, eMBMS, unlicensed spectrum, and
3GPP IoT chipsets. The GSA report provides valuable insights into the growing
5G chipset market, underscoring the increasing availability of commercially
available 5G devices.
