The Director
General of the Regional African Satellite Communications Organization (RASCOM),
Timothy Adi Ashong, has paid a courtesy call on the Chairman and CEO of Egypt's
premier satellite operator Nilesat, Major General Sameh Katta. The visit, which
took place on the sidelines of the just-ended New Space Horizon Conference held
in Eygpt aimed at exploring opportunities for collaboration between RASCOM and
Nilesat in accelerating satellite technology and growth in Africa.
According to
Mr. Ashong, the visit was a step towards fostering a strong partnership between
RASCOM and Nilesat, with the goal of driving the development of satellite
technology in Africa. "We believe that by working together, we can
unlock the vast potential of satellite technology to transform lives and
economies across the continent," he said.
During the
meeting, Mr. Ashong and the Nilesat CEO discussed various areas of
collaboration, including capacity building, technology transfer, and joint
projects. They also explored ways to leverage each other's strengths to enhance
the reach and impact of satellite services in Africa.
The visit also
afforded Mr. Ashong the opportunity to meet with other key officials of
Nilesat, including the newly appointed CEO of Technical Office, Michael Essam and
Ahmed Hafez, Strategic Planning Manager and CEO Technical Bureau. These
meetings provided valuable insights into Nilesat's operations and strategies
and paved the way for future collaboration.
By
collaborating with Nilesat, RASCOM aims to tap into Egypt's rich expertise and
experience in satellite technology, and to explore new opportunities for
cooperation and knowledge sharing.
The partnership
is expected to yield significant benefits for Africa, including improved access
to satellite services, enhanced connectivity, and increased economic
opportunities.
