The Regional
African Satellite Communications Organisation (RASCOM) has held its 75th
Ordinary Meeting of the Board of Directors in Praia, Cape Verde to promote
regional cooperation and strengthen Africa's satellite communications
infrastructure.
The 75th
meeting served as a platform to align the goals of multiple national satellite
agencies across the continent. By encouraging governments and operators to
prioritize African satellites, RASCOM aims to reduce reliance on external
operators and ensure the continent's satellite space remains competitive.
The meeting which
featured insightful presentations from key players in the African satellite
industry, including the CEO of Space in Africa and leading African satellite
operators such as NIGCOMSAT, NILESAT, Algeria Space Agency and ANGOSAT also showcased the
capabilities of Africa's satellite infrastructure, emphasizing the need for
deeper collaboration between operators.
To address key
challenges and guide its future efforts, RASCOM established committees focused
on fundraising strategy, organizing a continental conference, and analyzing
industry challenges. These committees will develop strategies to strengthen the
market, propose regulatory frameworks, and action plans to foster a competitive
and resilient satellite market in Africa.
RASCOM's
continued efforts to unite Africa's satellite operators are critical in
building a robust and self-sustaining satellite communications industry.
