MTN Fintech
South Sudan has launched a School Fees Payment product aimed simplifying the
process of paying school fees for parents and guardians, making it more
efficient, safer, and affordable. Through this digital solution, families can
now pay school fees directly from their mobile phones, while also being able to
track payments and receipts easily.
Speaking about
the launch, MTN Fintech CEO, Francis Matseketsa said MTN Sudan is committed to
supporting the South Sudanese government’s broader goal of digitizing payments
and reducing cash usage within the economy. “MTN Fintech in South Sudan
continues to support government efforts to digitize payments and reduce cash
usage within the economy. We have launched an initiative that offers
convenience to parents and guardians, allowing them to pay school fees via MoMo
rather than using cash," said Matseketsa.
The new
solution will also bolster safety, as highlighted by David Lowela Ladu,
Director General of Basic and Secondary Education at the Ministry of General
Education and Instruction. He praised MTN for its innovative approach and noted
the positive impact this platform will have in reducing the risks associated
with carrying large sums of money. “The platform not only enhances
convenience but significantly improves safety by reducing the risk of theft and
robbery associated with cash payments,” Ladu said.
To use the
service, parents or guardians can deposit money into their MoMo wallet, dial
the dedicated short code *200*3*2#, and enter their child's student number to
view the fee amount and complete the payment. Once the payment is made, users
receive an SMS confirmation summarizing the transaction, which can be used for
tracking and reconciliation. Schools will also receive notifications of the
payments and update student account accordingly, ensuring transparency and
real-time updates.
