The Managing
Director/CEO of Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), Jane
Egerton-Idehen, has officially unveiled the inaugural Nigerian Satellite Week,
themed “Empowering Nigeria’s Digital Future: Innovation in Satellite Technology
and Entrepreneurship,” at a press conference held in Abuja. The event, which
marks a significant achievement in the nation's space and satellite industry,
was also witnessed by Timothy Ashong, Director-General of the Regional African
Satellite Communications Organization (RASCOM).
The launch of
the Nigerian Satellite Week coincides with Egerton-Idehen’s one-year
anniversary as Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT, making it not only a moment of
celebration but also an opportunity to reflect on the achievements made under
her leadership. Over the past year, NIGCOMSAT has experienced noteworthy advancements
in satellite technology, expanded its partnerships, and improved service
delivery across Nigeria.
During the
press briefing, the Managing Director outlined the core objectives of the
Nigerian Satellite Week, which is designed to raise awareness about the vital
role satellites play in national development, communication, security, and
global competitiveness. By bringing together experts, industry leaders, and key
stakeholders, the event will showcase cutting-edge discussions on satellite
technologies, while also providing opportunities for both public and private
partnerships aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s presence in the global satellite
industry.
She expressed
her deep gratitude to stakeholders for their unwavering support and reaffirmed
her commitment to NIGCOMSAT’s mission of leveraging satellite technology to
drive national development. She noted that the event serves as a platform for
knowledge exchange, fostering innovation, and inspiring the next generation of
space professionals to play active roles in the rapidly evolving satellite
industry.

Nigerian Satellite Week will not only raise awareness but also pave the way for
innovation in satellite technology and entrepreneurship," Egerton-Idehen said. "This week-long event will inspire
both established and emerging leaders to explore the opportunities satellite

The event,
which will run until the 19th of October, features a lineup of expert panels,
keynote presentations, and networking sessions, all designed to stimulate
dialogue on the future of satellite technology and its impact on Nigeria’s
digital economy. Through public-private partnerships, the event aims to
position Nigeria as a key player in the global satellite industry, ensuring the
country's continued growth and competitiveness on the world stage.
