The Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, Dr. Margaret Ndung’u, along with Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano has engaged in high-level discussions with Google’s President for Europe, Middle East, and Africa, Matt Brittin, and his team. The talks centered around a new collaboration agreement between Kenya and Google, focusing on advancing Kenya’s digital infrastructure, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI), enhancing cybersecurity, and empowering Kenyan citizens with essential digital skills.

The partnership aims to strengthen Kenya’s digital ecosystem in critical areas. With AI and data-driven technologies at the forefront, the collaboration seeks to empower decision-makers across sectors with real-time, data-informed insights, making for more efficient, resilient governance. Additionally, cybersecurity measures will be prioritized to create a secure environment as the country’s digital economy grows.

One of the central themes of the discussions was how Google’s technology can play a key role in uplifting Kenya’s tourism sector. By utilizing AI and data analytics, Kenya hopes to attract a greater number of international visitors, optimize conservation initiatives, and deliver immersive digital experiences that showcase Kenya’s unique landscapes, wildlife, and cultural heritage to a global audience.

The partnership between Kenya and Google is expected to involve shared resources and expertise, aiming to establish a robust digital ecosystem that not only safeguards but also empowers Kenyans in the digital era. By focusing on skills training, the collaboration will equip Kenyans with the tools needed to thrive in a competitive digital economy.

Dr. Ndung’u noted the transformative role of AI in creating a resilient, inclusive, and innovative Kenya. "Our vision for the digital economy includes a secure, forward-looking infrastructure that can adapt to the rapid pace of technological change," she remarked.

Mr. Brittin also highlighted Google’s dedication to collaborating with Kenya in building a sustainable digital future. He stated, "Our mission is to work alongside Kenya to drive innovation, promote economic growth, and support a digital ecosystem that will not only attract more tourists but also empower Kenyans across all sectors."
