Rwanda’s
journey toward becoming a global technology leader is gaining momentum as key
players within its ICT ecosystem advocate for stronger partnerships and
collaborative efforts to drive digital transformation. Speaking at a recent
gathering, Minister of ICT and Innovation, Paula Ingabire, has stressed the need
for Rwanda to redouble its collective efforts to secure a firm position on the
global tech stage. She described the platform as an opportunity to foster
impactful partnerships among anchor leaders—established industry
players—and innovators, including startups, to build a thriving
digital economy.
Minister
Ingabire stated, “There is growth that has been happening through years in
our ICT ecosystem, but we need to double our collective efforts to position
Rwanda at the global tech arena. This is a great platform to create
partnerships among anchor leaders.”
The
Country Director at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (Rwanda), Stella
Mugabo and Alex Ntale, CEO at Rwanda ICT Chamber, in their remarks also noted
that such partnerships are essential for driving innovative solutions deeply
embedded in value chains.
Born
out of a partnership between Rwanda
ICT, Tony Blair
Institute for Global Change, and the Rwanda ICT Chamber, the Digital
Economy Anchor Leaders Initiative (DEAL) seeks to catalyze Rwanda’s
digital economy through anchor leaders to accelerate inclusive digital
transformation.
Stella
Mugabo pointed out the importance of leveraging partnerships, noting that
anchor leaders can offer resources, networks, and market access, while startups
and innovators bring agility and cutting-edge solutions. Alex Ntale echoed this
sentiment, stating that synergy between these groups will ensure the creation
of digital solutions that address real challenges and drive economic value.
The
Digital Economy Anchor Leaders Initiative (DEAL) is expected to serve
as a catalyst for accelerating inclusive digital transformation. The platform
aims to regularly convene anchor leaders and innovators from all sectors in
Rwanda and beyond to foster collaborative approaches to solving problems,
scaling innovative solutions, and enhancing Rwanda’s competitiveness in the
global digital economy.
