MTN Mobilemoney recognizes key partners, agents and merchants across the country

MTN MobileMoney Limited (MML) has marked its 15th anniversary with a nationwide celebration that culminated in a prestigious awards ceremony held in Accra. The event was organized to honor partners, agents, and merchants whose contributions have been instrumental in driving MTN MoMo’s success and its transformative impact on financial inclusion in Ghana.

Speaking at the ceremony, Shaibu Haruna, Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Limited, expressed profound gratitude to the Bank of Ghana, partners, and stakeholders for their trust and collaboration over the years. Reflecting on the 15-year journey, Mr. Haruna emphasized the significant contributions MTN MoMo has made to Ghana’s financial technology landscape. He highlighted its role in creating employment opportunities, boosting government revenue, fostering business growth, and empowering individuals as digital entrepreneurs. He noted that the platform’s primary success lies in bringing dignity to millions of Ghanaians through its financial inclusion efforts.

Looking ahead, Mr. Haruna outlined the immense potential in areas such as digital payments, cross-border transactions, insurance, investment, and e-commerce. He affirmed the company’s ambition to provide financial freedom to every Ghanaian through strategic partnerships and continuous innovation, ensuring that the transformative journey continues into the future.

The awards ceremony celebrated excellence in various categories, recognizing individuals and organizations that have contributed to the growth of the platform. Distinguished honorees included Archie Hesse, CEO of Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS), for his pioneering role in Ghana’s fintech evolution. Hubtel was celebrated for its overall excellence as a fintech company and government partner, while Nsano Ltd, AppsNmobile, and BluPenguin were among the fintech partners recognized for their innovative solutions and business partnerships. Several regional agents and merchants were also honored for their outstanding service, with awardees receiving prizes such as e-cash and motorbikes in acknowledgment of their efforts.

The 15th-anniversary celebrations, held under the theme “Empowering Communities: Celebrating 15 Years of Progressive Financial and Digital Inclusion,” included a variety of impactful initiatives. These activities ranged from customer promotions and stakeholder forums to fraud awareness campaigns, digital finance training for small and medium enterprises, and a cashless trade fair. These initiatives underscored MTN MoMo’s commitment to enhancing financial literacy and promoting economic participation across communities.

Since its inception in 2009, MTN MoMo has transformed the financial services sector in Ghana by providing millions of people with access to secure and convenient mobile money services. It has become a vital tool for financial transactions, fostering economic growth and improving the lives of countless Ghanaians.
