Senegal's President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye has presided over the inaugural Conference of Public Directors and Managers (CAMP) at the International Conference Center Abdou Diouf (CICAD). The gathering brought together leaders of public and semi-public institutions, alongside the Prime Minister and Government officials, to chart a course for reimagining Senegal’s administration.
Taking place amid pressing budgetary, financial, and organizational challenges, CAMP served as a pivotal platform to address the need for transformative governance. The Senegalese administration, particularly the parastatal sector, faces significant strain due to its size and inefficiency. Rationalizing its missions is seen as essential to better serving the general interest and achieving sustainable development goals.
In his opening address, President Faye framed the discussions around the Senegal 2050 Vision, the nation’s strategic blueprint for development. The vision is organized into four key pillars: fostering a competitive, job-creating economy; promoting sustainable regional development; enhancing human capital and social justice; and ensuring good governance underpinned by pan-African ideals.
The President emphasized the urgent need for a more effective public administration that prioritizes citizen needs, government solidarity, and the primacy of the general interest. Acknowledging the challenges of corruption, inefficiency, and a lack of accountability, he called for a renewed culture of loyalty, integrity, and transparency among public officials.
President Faye also underscored the importance of respecting governmental hierarchy as a cornerstone of effective governance, highlighting that discipline and coordination are essential to achieving national objectives. He expressed his government’s commitment to redefining the missions of parastatal organizations, enhancing oversight, and streamlining operations to ensure they are aligned with the nation’s development agenda.
The Head of State further urged senior executives to embrace solution-oriented and results-driven governance. He called for bold reforms and innovative practices to modernize Senegal’s administration and meet citizens' legitimate aspirations. By addressing inefficiencies and focusing on tangible outcomes, the government aims to restore trust in public institutions and set Senegal on a path of sustained progress.
CAMP’s inaugural session marked a significant step toward reshaping Senegal’s administrative landscape. As President Faye reiterated, the reimagining of public governance is not just an institutional priority but a decisive pillar for realizing the Senegal 2050 Vision. The conference serves as a testament to the government’s resolve to create a responsive, accountable, and citizen-centered administration capable of navigating contemporary challenges and securing a prosperous future for all Senegalese citizens.
