A high-level
delegation from Meta, led by Mr. Kojo Boakye, Vice President of Public Policy
for Africa, the Middle East, and Türkiye, has visited the Ethiopian Artificial
Intelligence Institute (EAII). The visit, which, aimed to strengthen the
existing partnership between Meta and EAII and explore new avenues for
collaboration in AI research and development.
The Meta
delegation was warmly welcomed by EAII’s Director General, Worku Gachena, and
Deputy Director General, Taye Girma. During the meeting, Dr. Gachena provided
an overview of the institute’s groundbreaking work in leveraging AI to address
challenges and drive innovation across various sectors, including healthcare,
agriculture, education, and governance.
Meta has been a
long-standing partner of EAII, providing continuous training and support to
enhance the institute’s capabilities in AI and related fields. The visit
underscored Meta’s commitment to fostering AI innovation in Africa and its
recognition of EAII as a key player in the continent’s AI ecosystem.

are deeply impressed by the work being done at the Ethiopian Artificial

The visit
concluded with in-depth discussions between EAII officials and the Meta
delegation to explore potential areas for further collaboration. Both parties
expressed a shared commitment to advancing AI research, developing AI-driven
solutions, and building capacity in AI technologies.
