MTN Group President and CEO leads Group’s executives to attend Broadband Commission Meeting

Executives from MTN Group, led by the Group's President and CEO, Ralph Mupita, have attended this year's Annual Spring Meeting of the Broadband Commission, which ended over the weekend with a call on industry players to fast track action on digital development on the continent.

Accompanying Mr. Mupita were the Group's Regional Vice President Southern and Eastern Africa, Yolanda Cuba, and the Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, Nompilo Morafo.

Hosted by the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Rwanda, Mitwa Kaemba Ng'ambi, and her team, the MTN Group team participated in a discussion co-chaired by the President of Rwanda, HE Paul Kagame, and the Broadband Commission's Co-Chair, Carlos Slim which centered on 'Connecting the Unconnected.'

Held in Rwanda's capital, this year's Broadband Commission Annual Spring Meeting 2022 brought together young leaders, entrepreneurs, social change-makers, engineers, policy specialists, students, and telecom experts to address the digital divide and its impact on digital skills, gender, climate change, online safety, the future of work, entrepreneurship and digital dependencies.

This year's Annual Spring Meeting 2022, themed "Driving Inclusive Digital Transformation," was held alongside the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) and brought together Broadband Commission Chairs, Commissioners, and Special Guests to discuss the pertinent issues affecting broadband connectivity today.

According to the Commission, with 2.9 billion unconnected people worldwide and billions struggling with the connectivity they have, high capacity networks based on reliable broadband are a social and economic imperative, a must.

 It noted further that the pandemic had amplified the importance of cooperation and partnerships to address the many divides and drive an inclusive whole of society approach to digital transformation.
