Key stakeholders have convened to accelerate Gabon's digital identity and civil status modernization initiative, a cornerstone of the national Digital Gabon program. The high-level working session brought together the Minister of Interior, Security and Decentralization, World Bank representatives, and technical experts from the National Agency for Digital Infrastructures and Frequencies (ANINF).

The meeting focused on Component 2 of the Digital Gabon project, which establishes the technological and administrative framework for a comprehensive digital identity system. World Bank officials stressed the program's strategic importance, noting that reliable identity documentation forms the foundation for inclusive service delivery and governance reform.

Minister of Interior Prof. Lambert Matha outlined the government's full commitment to the initiative: "This digital transformation goes beyond technology – it's about guaranteeing every Gabonese citizen secure access to their fundamental rights and public services." The ministry serves as the institutional anchor for the project, coordinating with technical partners to ensure seamless implementation.

ANINF, as Gabon's technical lead for digital infrastructure, confirmed its operational readiness to support the civil status digitization process. The agency will provide critical expertise in secure data systems, biometric technology, and network infrastructure required for nationwide deployment.

World Bank representatives highlighted how the project aligns with global best practices in digital inclusion while addressing Gabon's specific needs. The technical working session reviewed implementation timelines, data protection protocols, and interoperability standards to ensure the system meets international benchmarks for security and privacy.

This digital identity milestone comes as Gabon intensifies efforts to build 21st century public services. When fully operational, the system will reduce bureaucratic barriers, combat identity fraud, and create new opportunities for digital service delivery in healthcare, education, and social welfare programs.
