The Independent Communication Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has set the 30th of September as the deadline for public submissions on the Information Memorandum (IM), indicating the Authority’s intention to begin the Second Phase of the International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) Licensing process.

Initially, the ICASA had slated the public submission deadline for the 19th of September, 2022, but later had to extend it to the end of the month.

In a statement issued on ICASA's official website, it noted that the change was a result of a response from some stakeholders, as it allows everyone to engage the IM and make meaningful contributions.

It explained that the IM seeks input from interested stakeholders on the IMT radio frequency spectrum bands to be considered by the Authority during the second phase of the IMT licensing process.

“The second phase of the IMT Spectrum licensing process will provide licensees with additional capacity to meet the ongoing demand for capacity growth in mobile services,” it stated.
