MTN Ghana reiterates commitment to the fight against cyberattacks among youths

MTN Ghana has reiterated its commitment to the fight against cyber-attacks and other emerging online issues among Ghanaian youths.

Ghana’s telecom giant believes that since the youth depend on the internet for information, it is more critical than ever before to protect themselves against cyber threats or attacks by not exposing themselves to unknown people online.

Speaking during an event at the Osu Presbyterian Senior High School to commemorate the 20^th edition of the “Safe Internet Day” celebration in Accra, the Senior Manager for Enterprise Information Security and Governance at MTN Ghana, Jacqueline Hanson Kotei gave the assurance that MTN will not relent in its efforts to raise awareness on the emerging online issues and the associated strategies for resolution.

According to her the MTN Group in partnership with Meta, the Internet Watch Foundation, the International Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Child Helpline International, and the UN Office on Drug and Crime last launched the Child Safety Online Africa Portal, a platform aimed to help prevent the spread of child sexual abuse online material by blocking images of child sexual abuse online.

She said MTN Ghana will continue to partner with relevant agencies in the country to educate and create awareness on how young ones can stay safe on the internet without being harmed or bullied online.

“I think it's imperative that we partner, encourage, help, lead, and guide them on how to be safe on the internet. We have kids cyberbullied leading to things like suicide. So this is something that needs to be hammered over and over again.”

Headmaster of Osu Presbyterian Senior High School, Vincent Esoah in an interview with journalists urged other corporate bodies to emulate MTN Ghana's fine example to help create more awareness on issues surrounding online safety among the Ghanaian youth. He expressed his outfit profound appreciation to MTN for selecting the school within the Greater Accra Region to host such an educative program for students.
