Companies interested in buying minority shares in Ethio Telecom have until February 23, 2023, to obtain a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Partial Privatization document at $20,000.

Announcing the bid the Ethiopian Finance Ministry in a recent statement on its official website said “the Government of Ethiopia has released a Request for Proposal (“RFP”) for the Partial Privatization to invite proposals from interested parties who can add value to the Company by bringing in best practices in terms of operations, infrastructure management, and next generation technological capabilities.”

According to the statement, the move is aimed at broadening the role of the private sector in the Ethiopian economy, improving the efficiency of public enterprises, enhancing their competitiveness, increasing their access to capital, and enhancing the quality and accessibility of their services.

“Over the last decade, Ethiopia has become one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa. Its young population, high gross domestic product growth rate, and increased private sector investment offer valuable growth opportunities,” it stated.

“Further, low tele density in Ethiopia highlights the huge untapped potential in Ethiopia’s telecommunication sector. The Company’s robust infrastructure and strong financial performance will offer a significant competitive advantage to any investor,” the statement added.
