Airtel Madagascar, the Ministry of Education, and
UNICEF Madagascar have signed a 5-year partnership agreement to provide 14,000
students in 15 public colleges in the country with free access to the Ministry’s
digital education library and free internet connection from Airtel within the
institutions.
The agreement
forms part of the $57 million ‘Re-imagining Education’ partnership initiative
by Airtel Africa and UNICEF and Airtel Madagascar.
In a
brief statement issued on the official social media Linkedin platform of Airtel
Africa, it noted that “this announcement cements Airtel Africa’s commitment to
achieving the goals in our sustainability strategy where education is a key area
of our corporate social responsibility.”
“Through
facilitating connectivity and online access to education, we are supporting
Governments and communities to embrace digital learning while ensuring it is sustainable and meets
students’ needs across Africa,” it added.
In attendance at the
signing ceremony were representatives from the Ministry of National Education
(MEN). UNICEF and Airtel Madagascar.
