Somalia’s National Communications Authority marks Safer Internet Day 2026 with AI-focused workshop

The National Communications Authority (NCA) of Somalia, in collaboration with Mogadishu University has commemorated Safer Internet Day 2026 by organizing a national workshop aimed at promoting cybersecurity awareness and responsible technology use.

Held under the theme “Smart Tech, Safe Choices – Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI),” the workshop brought together students, academic staff, and representatives of the university’s student association.

The event focused on encouraging the safe, ethical, and responsible use of artificial intelligence while fostering a stronger cybersecurity culture among Somali youth. Discussions addressed emerging online risks, digital safety practices, and mechanisms designed to enhance national protection in the digital space.

According to the NCA, the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen public awareness of cybersecurity challenges and promote responsible engagement with evolving digital technologies. Safer Internet Day is observed globally as a platform to advocate for a safer and more secure online environment.
