The
Ethiopian Institute of Artificial Intelligence (EAII) has signed an agreement
with the University of Gondar to collaborate on the development of artificial
intelligence technologies and undertake joint research and development
activities.
The
agreement was signed by the Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Institute
of Artificial Intelligence, Mr. Teghsu Desalegn, and the President of the
University of Gondar, Dr. Asrat Atsedewine.

Speaking
at the signing ceremony, Mr. Desalegn highlighted the critical role of higher
education institutions in ensuring that artificial intelligence technologies
are accessible, practical and beneficial to society. He noted that the
partnership with the University of Gondar forms part of the Institute’s broader
efforts to develop skilled human resources in the AI sector and strengthen
national capacity in emerging technologies.
Dr.
Atsedewine welcomed the collaboration, describing it as timely and strategic.
He said the University of Gondar was pleased to work with an institution that,
despite its relatively recent establishment, has demonstrated strong
performance and impact in advancing artificial intelligence in Ethiopia. He
added that the university would contribute meaningfully to the Institute’s
ongoing initiatives in the AI field.

Under
the agreement, the two institutions will engage in joint research and
development projects in priority areas, implement problem-solving initiatives,
provide technical support, and facilitate the exchange of information and
expertise.
In
addition to the signing of the agreement, discussions were held on arrangements
for hosting a National Artificial Intelligence Conference in Gondar as part of
the collaboration.
