The
Chief Executive Officer for Group Sonatel, Brelotte Ba has underscored the role
of youth innovation and digital infrastructure in supporting Senegal’s
preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
Speaking
during the JOJ Innovation Challenge 2026 Hackathon in Dakar, Ba moderated a
panel discussion focused on Senegal’s digital ambitions and collective
responsibilities in the lead-up to the global sporting event.

The
hackathon attracted nearly 900 applications, with 100 young participants
selected to develop innovative solutions aligned with the objectives of the
Youth Olympic Games. Organisers said the strong turnout reflects growing
interest among young people in contributing to national development through
technology and innovation.
Ba
noted that the energy, creativity and ambition demonstrated by participants
highlight the potential of youth to play a meaningful role in the success of
the event. He added that Sonatel will play a critical role in delivering
reliable, efficient and inclusive connectivity to support the games and connect
Dakar to a global audience.

The
JOJ Innovation Challenge forms part of broader efforts to leverage digital
technologies and youth-driven innovation in preparation for Dakar 2026, which
is expected to showcase Senegal’s capabilities on the international stage.
Stakeholders
said continued collaboration between the private sector, government and young
innovators will be essential to delivering a successful and technologically
enabled event.
