Ghana’s Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George is participating in the International Telecommunication Union Ministerial Retreat for Council Member States, where discussions are focused on shaping the future direction of global digital cooperation in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

The session was led by ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin, who emphasized the need for strengthened collaboration and strategic alignment to guide the Union’s next phase of development and impact.

The ITU Council Working Group also convened to develop the organization’s Strategic and Financial Plan for the 2028–2031 period. Key discussions centered on defining priorities, aligning financial resources, and ensuring measurable outcomes that respond to the evolving global digital environment.

The planning process builds on ongoing reforms and transformation efforts undertaken over the past three years, with a continued focus on expanding global connectivity, bridging the digital divide, and strengthening inclusive digital development.

The outcomes of the retreat are expected to guide the ITU’s work in supporting member states as they adapt to emerging technologies and advance sustainable digital transformation worldwide.
