Ethiopia has presented its vision for hosting the 32nd United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP32) during a high-level ministerial roundtable at the 12th Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development in Addis Ababa.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedion Timothewos delivered remarks at the session, which focused on unlocking finance for climate resilience and sustainable development across Africa.

He emphasised the need to move beyond climate finance pledges toward concrete implementation, calling for mechanisms that ensure funding translates into tangible outcomes for countries facing climate challenges.

The minister highlighted the importance of innovative financing approaches that combine public funding, private sector investment, and support from international financial institutions to address Africa’s climate and development needs.

Ethiopia is set to host COP32 in November 2027, with officials positioning the event as an opportunity to advance global climate action while addressing the continent’s priorities in resilience and sustainable growth.

The forum has convened ministers responsible for finance, social affairs, climate change, and development from across Africa to discuss strategies for accelerating progress on sustainable development goals and strengthening climate action.

Stakeholders at the event stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to mobilise resources and drive impactful solutions to climate-related challenges facing the continent.
