Ericsson
President and CEO, Börje Ekholm has announced his retirement after nearly a
decade at the helm of the telecommunications technology company, with longtime
executive Per Narvinger set to succeed him as chief executive.
Ekholm
disclosed that he will remain in his current role until September 30, 2026,
ensuring a transition period before Narvinger formally assumes leadership of
the company.
In
announcing his departure, Ekholm reflected on his tenure at Ericsson,
describing it as an honour and privilege to lead the company through a period
marked by both challenges and transformation. He paid tribute to Ericsson’s
workforce, crediting employees for the company’s achievements and continued
competitiveness in the global telecommunications industry.
Ekholm
expressed confidence in the board’s decision to appoint Narvinger as his
successor, noting that the two executives have worked closely together for many
years. He said the leadership transition would position Ericsson for continued
success and innovation in the years ahead.
The
outgoing chief executive also confirmed that he will step down from Ericsson’s
board of directors alongside his departure from operational leadership, ending
an association with the company that has spanned nearly a third of his life.
Ekholm
has led Ericsson since 2017, overseeing the company during a period of
significant expansion in 5G deployment, digital infrastructure development, and
evolving global telecommunications markets. His retirement marks the end of one
of the most consequential leadership periods in the company’s recent history.
The
appointment of Narvinger signals a new chapter for Ericsson as the company
continues to focus on next-generation connectivity technologies and
strengthening its position in the global telecommunications sector.
