Morocco has been elected to
the Administrative Council of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) for
the 2027–2031 term, reinforcing the Kingdom's growing role in advancing digital
cooperation and telecommunications development across Africa.
The election took place
during the ATU's 26th Plenipotentiary Conference in Abuja, where Member States
selected representatives to serve on the Union's governing body between
plenipotentiary conferences.
Morocco's election reflects
the confidence of ATU Member States in the country's contributions to digital
transformation and its commitment to promoting regional cooperation in
information and communication technologies.
The Kingdom has positioned
digital innovation as a strategic pillar of its development agenda through its Maroc
Digital 2030 strategy and the AI Made in Morocco roadmap, which seek to
leverage telecommunications and artificial intelligence to drive socio-economic
development.
As part of its continental
engagement, Morocco is extending several flagship initiatives to African
partners, including the JAZARI Institutes for digital skills development, the Digital
for Sustainable Development (D4SD) Hub developed in partnership with the United
Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Dakhla Digital Igoudar project,
which focuses on strengthening African capabilities in cloud computing,
artificial intelligence and data centre technologies.
Founded in 1977 as a
specialized institution of the African Union, the African Telecommunications
Union works to harmonize ICT policies, promote regional cooperation and support
the development of telecommunications and digital infrastructure across the continent.
