Kenya and China have
reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening digital skills development and
innovation through the launch of the 11th edition of the Huawei ICT Competition
in Nairobi.
The competition was
officially launched at State House, Nairobi, by President William Ruto and
Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan, highlighting the growing partnership
between the two countries in advancing technology education and building
future-ready digital talent.
The event brought together
key stakeholders in Kenya's technology ecosystem, including Cabinet Secretary
for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy William Kabogo and
Huawei Kenya CEO Gavin Gao.
The Huawei ICT Competition
is designed to equip students with practical technology skills, encourage
innovation and provide young talents with opportunities to develop expertise in
emerging technologies.
Speaking at the launch,
stakeholders emphasised the importance of investing in digital capabilities as
Kenya continues to advance its digital transformation agenda and strengthen its
position as a technology hub in Africa.
The initiative aligns with
broader efforts by the Kenyan government to expand digital skills training,
support innovation and prepare young people for opportunities within the global
digital economy.
Huawei Kenya has continued
to collaborate with universities and technology institutions across the country
through programmes focused on areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud
computing, cybersecurity, networking and other emerging technologies.
The latest edition of the
ICT Competition is expected to provide Kenyan students with a platform to test
their technical knowledge, compete internationally and gain exposure to global
technology trends.
