MTN Uganda and MTN MoMo have
launched their 2025 Sustainability Report, highlighting the group's progress in
responsible business practices, digital inclusion, governance, and financial
inclusion while strengthening transparency through alignment with international
sustainability reporting standards.
The report positions MTN
Uganda among the first companies in the country to align its sustainability
disclosures with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
Sustainability Disclosure Standards. It also received independent assurance
from EY under the International Standard on Sustainability Assurance (ISSA)
5000, reinforcing the credibility of the company's environmental, social, and
governance (ESG) reporting.
Speaking at the launch, MTN
Uganda Board Chairman Charles Mbire said strong corporate governance remains
central to the company's long-term growth strategy, enabling it to create
sustainable value for shareholders, customers, employees, and communities.
The report also highlights
continued investment in digital infrastructure across Uganda. By the end of
2025, MTN Uganda had connected 24.2 million subscribers, expanded its 4G
population coverage to 88.6 percent, and deployed more than 27,000 kilometres of
fibre infrastructure to improve connectivity nationwide.
MTN Uganda Chief Executive
Officer Sylvia Mulinge reaffirmed the company's commitment to ensuring that
everyone benefits from a modern connected life, noting that sustainability
remains integrated into its business strategy, innovation, and investment decisions.
The report underscores the
growing role of MTN MoMo in advancing financial inclusion across Uganda.
According to MTN MoMo Managing Director Phrase Lubega, the mobile financial
services platform ended 2025 with more than 241,000 agents, over 114,000 merchant
points, and processed more than five billion transactions valued at UGX 195.5
trillion during the year.
Uganda Securities Exchange
Chief Executive Officer Paul Bwiso, who attended the launch as guest of honour,
said transparent sustainability reporting plays an important role in
strengthening investor confidence, improving corporate accountability, and supporting
sustainable economic development.
MTN Uganda said the 2025
Sustainability Report demonstrates how its investments in connectivity, digital
financial services, responsible governance, community development, and climate
action are contributing to long-term value creation while supporting Uganda's
digital transformation agenda.
