Togo has begun
implementation of the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative following a
national consultative workshop held in Lomé to strengthen the country’s early
warning systems.
The workshop, held last
week, brought together key national and international partners to review
preparations for the initiative and establish the framework for its
implementation in Togo.
The engagement was conducted
in collaboration with the Presidency of Togo, the Agence nationale de la
Météorologie and the Agence Nationale de la Protection Civile (ANPC), alongside
the EW4All pillar lead agencies, including the United Nations Office for
Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies
(IFRC).
The consultative meeting
focused on establishing a national coordination mechanism and developing a
roadmap to guide the implementation of the initiative. Participants also
assessed existing gaps in Togo’s early warning systems and identified priority
actions required to strengthen preparedness and response.
The initiative seeks to
advance people-centred early warning systems that can provide communities with
timely and actionable information ahead of hazardous events, helping to reduce
risks and protect lives and livelihoods.
The discussions in Lomé also
provided an opportunity for national stakeholders and development partners to
agree on the next steps for strengthening Togo’s capacity to deliver effective
early warning services as the country moves forward with the EW4All implementation
process.
