The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) of the Republic of Korea have strengthened cooperation on ICT standardisation and capacity building across the Asia-Pacific region through a new Joint Declaration.

The Joint Declaration on “ICT Standardization and Capacity Building for Asia-Pacific” was signed during the Regional Development Forum for Asia and the Pacific (RDF-ASP) 2026, held on July 16 and 17 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The agreement establishes a stronger framework for regional cooperation on ICT standards and emerging technologies while creating broader opportunities for technical experts and ICT professionals to participate in training, knowledge exchange and capacity development programmes.

The collaboration is also intended to help countries translate international ICT standards into practical national applications, strengthening their ability to adopt and implement technologies within their respective digital development frameworks.

Through the partnership, ITU and TTA will continue supporting the development of expertise in ICT standardisation and strengthening digital capacity across the Asia-Pacific region.

The initiative builds on existing cooperation between the two organisations and is expected to provide additional opportunities for professionals to gain practical knowledge and skills related to international ICT standards.

The agreement also reflects broader efforts to ensure that developing and emerging technologies are supported by effective standards and that countries have the technical capacity required to apply those standards.

The ITU said the partnership with TTA will contribute to strengthening standardisation capabilities across Asia and the Pacific while supporting more coordinated approaches to digital development.

The cooperation includes the 2026 Interregional Training Course on ITU International Standards, through which technical experts and ICT professionals can deepen their understanding of ITU standards and their practical application.
