The three-day ITU Regulatory
Sandbox Study Tour has concluded in South Africa with participating regulators
committing to more responsive regulatory approaches that support innovation,
investment and economic growth.
The study tour provided
regulators and partners with an opportunity to exchange experiences and examine
how regulatory sandboxes can help authorities respond more effectively to
emerging technologies and new business models.
Participants agreed on the
importance of developing regulatory approaches that can keep pace with
technological change while creating an environment that encourages responsible
innovation and investment.
The engagement also
highlighted the value of continued collaboration among regulators and industry
stakeholders in strengthening regulatory capacity and sharing practical
experiences across jurisdictions.
The tour formed part of the
ITU’s efforts to promote knowledge exchange on regulatory sandboxes, with South
Africa hosting the African leg of the programme.
The conclusion of the study
tour marks a commitment by participating regulators to carry forward the
lessons from the engagement and explore approaches that can make regulation
more adaptable to changing technology markets.
