Ecobank Zimbabwe has
officially opened its new head office in Harare, with Group Chief Executive
Officer Jeremy Awori highlighting the country’s strong growth within the
Ecobank Group and the bank’s continued commitment to investing in Zimbabwe.
The new facility was
officially opened in the presence of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Dambudzo
Mnangagwa, whose attendance Awori described as a significant show of support
from the government.
Awori said the opening
represented more than the completion of a construction project, noting that
when he visited the site in 2024 it was still under construction.
The new head office reflects
Ecobank’s long-term commitment to Zimbabwe, where the bank began operations 15
years ago as a venture seeking to establish a pan-African banking presence in a
challenging operating environment.
According to Awori, Ecobank
Zimbabwe has since grown to become the Group’s leading market in Central,
Eastern and Southern Africa in areas including revenue, profit before tax and
total assets, while ranking among the five largest markets across the entire
Ecobank Group.
He said the performance has
strengthened the bank’s commitment to further investment in Zimbabwe and to
supporting local businesses by connecting them to markets across Africa and the
wider global economy.
The new head office has also
been designed with environmental sustainability in mind. The facility is
powered by solar energy, incorporates rainwater harvesting and has been
engineered for high energy efficiency.
Awori said the development
reflects Ecobank’s belief that a bank committed to Africa’s growth must invest
responsibly in the communities and economies in which it operates.
He congratulated the Ecobank
Zimbabwe team, led by Managing Director Moses Kurenjekwa, with the support of
Chairman Promise Ncube, for the completion of the project.
