The Government of Zambia has
launched a three-year Connectivity and Digital Learning Programme aimed at
expanding digital access and strengthening learning outcomes in public schools
across the country.
The programme will initially
connect 70 public schools to high-speed Starlink internet while providing solar
power solutions to schools located in off-grid communities.
Launched at Chainda Primary
and Secondary School in Chongwe District, the initiative forms part of the
government’s broader programme to digitise public schools under its digital
inclusion agenda.
The programme is being
implemented through a strategic collaboration involving the Presidential
Delivery Unit (PDU), Ministry of Education, Public-Private Dialogue Forum
(PPDF), and Ignite Energy Access Zambia.

Kamwambi, said connectivity must serve as a gateway to knowledge, government
services, jobs, skills and markets. Her remarks were delivered on her behalf by
PDU Delivery Manager, Enhanced Value Chains, Jones Mulunga Shimbela.
Ignite Access Zambia
Managing Director, Hellen Zulu said the initiative goes beyond providing
internet access, with the programme also focusing on skills development and
community empowerment.
A representative of the
District Education Boards, Mulenga Bambala, said the initiative would improve
access to educational resources, strengthen teacher training and enhance
students’ digital literacy.
Stella Lipalile Muchuchuti,
Head Teacher of Chainda Primary School, said reliable connectivity would
strengthen research capabilities and provide teachers with access to up-to-date
information. She added that the programme would also enable surrounding communities
to better support learners.
