Ghana has reaffirmed its
partnership with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as the country
continues efforts to harness nuclear science and technology safely and securely
for sustainable development.
Minister for Environment,
Science and Technology, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, held discussions with
IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi at the 70th IAEA General Conference
in Vienna, where both sides reaffirmed the importance of continued international
cooperation.
The discussions focused on
Ghana’s nuclear development journey and the role of collaboration with the IAEA
in expanding the benefits of nuclear science and technology for the country.
As Ghana advances its
nuclear programme, the partnership with the IAEA is expected to support the
application of nuclear technology across key areas of development, including
healthcare, agriculture and energy.
The engagement also
highlighted the importance of ensuring that nuclear science is developed and
applied in a manner that prioritises safety and security while contributing to
sustainable national development.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings
expressed her interest in deepening Ghana’s collaboration with the IAEA, with a
focus on translating advances in science and technology into tangible
improvements in the lives of Ghanaians.
