Nigerian technology company
Milsat Technologies is behind the technology powering Nigeria’s new National
Digital Postcode, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy
Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani said.
Tijani praised Milsat
Technologies, founded by Taslim Saluadeen and Adedamola Baderinwa, describing
the company’s work as an example of Nigerian technical capability and the
country’s ability to develop infrastructure that improves public services,
supports businesses and opens up economic opportunities.
“Built in Nigeria. Ready for
the world,” Tijani said.
The minister said Milsat
moved from delivering a pilot in 2023 to building a national system,
demonstrating the capacity of Nigerian companies to develop technology for
domestic needs and scale their expertise internationally.
Milsat’s work extends beyond
the national postcode system. According to Tijani, the company supported the
National Population Commission’s mapping of more than 65 million properties in
preparation for Nigeria’s first digital census.
The company has also
deployed enumeration area demarcation technology in Sierra Leone, extending its
location and field-data capabilities beyond Nigeria.
“This is the ambition I want
us to nurture: Nigerian companies building solutions for our needs, proving
their capabilities at home and taking that expertise to the world,” Tijani
said.
The minister also expressed
appreciation to NIPOST Nigeria, Meeds Network Limited and the National
Population Commission for their roles in the development of the initiative.
“Today’s spotlight belongs
to the Milsat team,” Tijani said.
He said he looked forward to
seeing the company help more countries use location and field data to improve
public services.
“I look forward to seeing
you help many more countries turn location and field data into better services
for their people,” he said.
