Ecobank Group Chief
Executive Officer Jeremy Awori has met with key partners in Beijing to discuss opportunities to expand trade and investment between China and Africa, focusing on financing businesses and improving cross-border payments.
The discussions centred on
practical solutions to help businesses take advantage of growing commercial
opportunities between the two regions, including financing Chinese companies
operating across Africa and enabling faster, more efficient cross-border payments
in renminbi and local currencies.
Awori said Ecobank
recognised the potential of China-Africa economic relations when it established
its presence in China in 2012 and created Chinese desks across its African
markets.
“Today, we are building on
that commitment, leveraging our pan-African network, technology and strategic
partnerships to facilitate trade and investment,” he said in a LinkedIn post.
Awori also announced that
Ecobank would officially inaugurate its new office premises in Beijing,
describing the development as another important milestone in bringing China and
Africa closer together.
The engagement reflects
Ecobank’s continued focus on using its regional network, technology and
partnerships to support businesses operating across African markets and
strengthen commercial links with China.
Awori said exciting
opportunities lay ahead as the group continued to work with partners to make
trade and investment between China and Africa easier for businesses.
