The MTN Uganda Foundation,
in partnership with Maendeleo Foundation, has trained 407 learners, mainly
youth and women from Pader and Lamwo districts, in digital and financial
literacy through its MTN Internet Bus programme.
The learners completed three
weeks of training, with their graduation held at Angagura Subcounty
Headquarters in Pader.
The programme aims to equip
participants with practical skills to access information, manage finances,
pursue employment opportunities and grow businesses, while helping communities
overcome barriers related to distance, cost and access to digital learning.
“For these graduates, the
experience goes beyond learning how to use a computer. It’s about gaining the
confidence and practical skills to access information, manage finances, pursue
employment opportunities and grow businesses,” MTN Uganda said in a statement.
Since 2022, the MTN Internet
Bus programme has trained more than 7,000 people, recording a completion rate
of over 90%.
The graduation marks another
milestone in the programme’s sixth phase, following a graduation ceremony at
Makerere Kikoni in September.
MTN Uganda said graduates
could continue developing their skills through the free online MTN Skills
Academy and explore further opportunities through MTN ACE.
The foundation also
acknowledged Maendeleo Foundation, trainers, local leaders and communities for
their contributions to the programme.
The initiative forms part of
efforts to expand digital inclusion in Uganda by ensuring more people have not
only access to technology but also the skills to benefit from it.
