MTN employee Isaac Chibanga
in Zambia has won US$10,000 after his entry was selected as the new brand sound
for MTN Mobile Money (MoMo), following an internal competition launched by MTN
Group earlier this year.
The competition, called the
Sound of the MoMo Moment, invited employees across Africa to create a
distinctive brand sound for MTN Mobile Money. Chibanga, a member of MTN’s GSM
business in Zambia, emerged the winner from 35 entries.
According to MoMo from MTN
Zambia, the company looked within its own workforce for the creativity that
would shape the sound rather than seeking talent outside the business.
Chibanga’s winning sound
will become part of how customers experience and recognise MTN Mobile Money
across its African markets. It will feature across MoMo brand assets and
experiences throughout the markets in which the service operates.
His achievement also
highlights collaboration across MTN’s business platforms, including MTN Zambia,
MTN Mobile Money and Bayobab.
The company said the
achievement demonstrates how an idea from an employee working in one part of
the business can contribute to the MoMo brand across the continent.
Chibanga decided to enter
the competition, and his creativity ultimately came out on top, earning him the
US$10,000 award and a place in the development of MTN Mobile Money’s brand
identity across Africa.
