Kenya’s Ministry of
Information, Communications and the Digital Economy has committed to working
with the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) on a
coordinated roadmap to showcase the country’s digital achievements, innovations
and investment opportunities, while supporting regional collaboration on
connectivity and digital inclusion across Africa.
The commitment followed a
meeting hosted by Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo Gitau with a GSMA delegation
led by Sarah Wiggin, Vice President of Sales, at Telposta Towers.
The discussions covered
collaboration between Kenya and the GSMA in advancing Africa’s digital
transformation, key issues in the communications sector and the importance of
mobilising participation from across the continent.
Kabogo said the ministry
would work with the GSMA to develop a clear and coordinated roadmap that
highlights Kenya’s progress in digital technology and creates opportunities for
regional cooperation.
The GSMA delegation included
Angela Wamola, Head of Africa; Caroline Mbugua, Senior Director of Public
Policy for Africa; and Linus Melly.
Also present at the meeting
were David Mugonyi, Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya,
and Temesi Mukani, Secretary for Information.
The engagement forms part of
efforts to strengthen cooperation between Kenya and industry stakeholders to
advance connectivity, digital inclusion and Africa’s broader digital
transformation.
