The Africa Centres for
Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is supporting Uganda to unlock
US$25 million from the Pandemic Fund to strengthen its preparedness against
future health emergencies, as efforts continue to contain the Ebola outbreak in
the country.
The Director General of
Africa CDC, Dr Jean Kaseya, disclosed this on November 6, 2026, following
meetings in Kampala with Uganda’s Vice-President, H.E. Jessica Alupo, and
Minister of Health, Dr Chris Baryomunsi.
Dr Kaseya said the
engagements provided an opportunity to congratulate the Ugandan leadership and
encourage continued strong leadership, transparency and cross-border
collaboration to stop the Ebola outbreak.
He also highlighted Uganda’s
inclusion on the Africa CDC Governing Board and the appointment of Dr (Col)
Henry Kyobe Bosa as Africa CDC Country Director for Uganda.
The US$25 million support
from the Pandemic Fund is intended to help Uganda strengthen its health
security and protect lives before the next public health crisis.
Dr Kaseya emphasised the
importance of collective action and regional cooperation in shaping Africa’s
health future, stating that the continent must work together with conviction
and hope.
