Kenya has announced plans to construct a Gigawatt (1GW) Data Centre in Naivasha in partnership with Eco-Cloud, G42 Investment Group, and Microsoft.

The announcement was made following a strategic meeting between President William Ruto and high-profile tech industry leaders including the Vice Chair and President of Microsoft, Brad Smith and CEO of G42, Peng Xiao.

President William Ruto, in conjunction with Eco-cloud officials, unveiled this ambitious project, which aligns perfectly with the ongoing 24th edition of the Transform Africa Summit, highlighting Kenya's dedication to advancing digital connectivity, enhancing digital skills, and fortifying cybersecurity measures.

The discussions held during the meeting also emphasized the importance of enhancing digital skills and fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.

As Kenya positions itself as a hub for digital innovation, investments in human capital development are crucial to ensure that the workforce is equipped with the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo who was present at the meeting praised Kenya’s leadership in digital transformation and its progress toward becoming a green Silicon Savannah.
