The Botswana
Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) has welcomed Minister of
Communications and Innovation, David Tshere and Assistant Minister, Shawn
Nthaile to its office for an insightful meet-and-greet session.
The visit
provided a platform for the ministers to acquaint themselves with BOCRA's
mandate as the regulator responsible for ensuring fair competition, consumer
protection, and the sustainable development of Botswana’s communications
landscape. BOCRA plays a critical role in overseeing the country’s
telecommunications, broadcasting, postal, and internet services, which are
integral to the nation’s socio-economic development.
During the
session, the minister shared their preliminary expectations and outlined the
policy direction they envision for the sector. Mr. Tshere emphasized the
importance of leveraging technology and innovation to drive national
development, calling on BOCRA to continue its efforts in fostering an enabling
environment for digital transformation. Assistant minister, Nthaile also
stressed the need for policies that support the growth of local enterprises,
improve connectivity in underserved areas, and ensure that Botswana remains
competitive in the global digital economy.
BOCRA
leadership expressed gratitude for the ministers’ visit, reaffirming their
dedication to aligning the regulator’s strategic objectives with the
government’s policy priorities. The authority pledged to work closely with the
ministry to address key challenges, promote innovation, and position Botswana
as a leader in communications and technology in the region.
