The Minister of
Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy for the Federal Republic of
Nigeria, Bosun Tijani, has welcomed consultants from KPMG Nigeria and
SimmonsCooper Partners as they presented an interim report on the
sustainability of the country’s telecoms sector.
The report underscores the
government’s ongoing commitment to addressing challenges in the
telecommunications industry while ensuring the provision of meaningful
connectivity for all Nigerians. Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Tijani
emphasized the government's dual focus on sustainability and accessibility,
stating, “As a government, we are working to find a balance between the
sustainability of the sector and ensuring the availability of meaningful
connectivity for our people.”
This milestone forms part of
Nigeria's broader vision to establish internet access as a fundamental human
right. The minister reiterated that this commitment aligns with the nation's
digital economy objectives, which aim to empower citizens through widespread,
reliable, and affordable connectivity.
The interim report marks a
significant step towards realizing this vision, addressing key challenges, and
exploring innovative solutions to ensure that the telecoms sector remains
robust and inclusive. With the collaboration of industry experts and stakeholders,
Nigeria is poised to achieve its goal of universal internet access and position
itself as a leader in the global digital economy.
The ministry and its
partners continue to forge ahead with strategic measures to solidify Nigeria’s
telecoms sector as a cornerstone of innovation, economic growth, and social
