Chief
Executive Officer of MTN South Africa, Charles Molapisi, has welcomed the
Premier of the Gauteng Province, David Makhura to MTN South Africa’s office.
The
premier, who led a delegation made up of senior government officials, including the MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi, MEC for Economic Development, Mpho Parks
and MEC for e-Government, Nomantu N. Kkomo-Ralehoko were met on arrival by the
Mr. Molapisi and members of his executive team.
According to official
notes obtained from MTN South Africa’s social media LinkedIn platform, the Gauteng
Province and MTN executive team gathered to consider how the two can partner
to further grow Gauteng together.
“The exceptional energy,
vision, and drive of the Premier and his team was inspiring, and it is clear the
potential for growing our existing partnership with the Gauteng Province is
enormous,” it said.
Discussions
between the two parties centered on linking township economic development to
high-growth sectors, leveraging leading-edge thinking by the province on
township enterprise zones, and drawing together MTN’s connectivity and ICT abilities
to create vibrant, growing township economies.
Gauteng
Province is one of the nine provinces in South Africa. Although the smallest province
by land area in South Africa, Gauteng is the wealthiest province in South
Africa and is considered the financial hub of not only South Africa but the entire
African continent, mostly concentrated in Johannesburg.
