The
government of Zimbabwe has appointed a new 11-member Board of Directors for the
Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ),
marking a key step in strengthening the country’s telecommunications regulatory
framework.

The
announcement was made by the Minister of Information Communication Technology,
Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera, who said the appointments were
made by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa as part of efforts to support
Zimbabwe’s digital transformation agenda.
Sam
Takavarasha Jnr has been appointed as Chairperson of the board, while Barbara
Mukahanana will serve as Vice Chairperson. Prince Sibanda has been named as the
Ministry’s technical representative on the board.
Other
members of the board include Tofara Audrey Nyoni, Michelle Madyira, Sebastian
Masimba Guwuriro, Siyakha Njabuliso Mthunzi, Miriam Mugwati, Caos Nzenze,
Maneta Linnys Dzauma and Prince Mushaninga.

According
to the minister, the new board takes office at a critical moment as Zimbabwe
seeks to accelerate its digital economy ambitions by 2030. She noted that a
strong and forward-looking regulatory authority will be essential in expanding
broadband connectivity, promoting policy innovation and supporting emerging
technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and 5G.
The
ministry also indicated that the new board will work toward strengthening
consumer protection, fostering investor confidence and creating a stable and
competitive telecommunications market to support the country’s digital
development goals.
