On International Women’s Day, Senegal hosted a debate on “Women & ICTs: an inclusive approach for a sustainable digital transformation,” organized by the Association des Femmes Sénégalaises dans le Secteur du Numérique (FESTIC) and supported by the Goin’ Digital project implemented by GIZ in Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, and Cabo Verde. The event was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs, and the Ministry of Women.

The discussion convened public officials, digital experts, scientific institutions, and organizations committed to promoting digital inclusion for women. Participants emphasized the critical role of women in science and technology, particularly in emerging sectors such as data, artificial intelligence, engineering, and space.

Speakers highlighted that successful digital transformation depends on inclusivity, and called for strengthening skills, opening opportunities, and promoting STEM vocations among young girls to prepare the next generation of talent driving Senegal’s economy.

The event featured a masterclass by Minata Sarr and panel discussions that showcased the importance of empowering women to participate fully in the nation’s technological and scientific development.
