Namibia’s
Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, has held
consultations with the boards and executive management of Telecom Namibia and
PowerCom to review progress and future plans within the country’s ICT sector.

The
meeting, which took place in Windhoek, focused on strengthening the
telecommunications landscape and advancing Namibia’s broader digital
transformation agenda. Telecom Namibia highlighted the need for increased
capital investment to modernise legacy infrastructure and improve service
delivery nationwide.
PowerCom,
which manages telecommunications infrastructure, presented its expansion
strategy, including a planned five-year rollout of network towers aimed at
enhancing connectivity and extending coverage to underserved areas.

As
part of the engagement, the minister also interacted with employees of Telecom
Namibia, providing an opportunity for staff to raise operational concerns.
Among the key issues discussed was the persistent theft of copper cables, which
workers said continues to disrupt telecommunications services and affect
network reliability.
The
discussions form part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Information and
Communication Technology Namibia to build a more resilient and efficient
telecommunications sector capable of meeting the country’s growing digital
demands.
