Zambia has officially bid
farewell to its national robotics team as the country’s representatives prepare
to compete at the United Nations Robotics for Good Youth Challenge in Geneva,
Switzerland.
The delegation, made up of
10 young innovators from David Kaunda National STEM Secondary School, Munali
Boys Secondary School and the University of Zambia, was hosted at Zamtel Park
ahead of their departure for the global competition.
This year’s challenge,
themed “Agriculture and Food Systems,” will see the Zambian team present AI and
robotics-based solutions designed to address practical challenges in
agriculture and food production, with a focus on sustainability and improved
livelihoods.
The students will compete
against peers from 50 countries, showcasing indigenous innovation and technical
creativity on an international stage.
Zamtel and partners E-Mark
Innovation Hub and EO Robotics have supported Zambia’s participation, providing
technical and institutional backing for the team’s preparation and engagement
in the competition.
Organisers noted that the
initiative reflects growing investment in STEM education and youth innovation
in Zambia, with the aim of positioning young people as key contributors to the
country’s digital and technological transformation agenda.
The team is expected to
carry Zambia’s flag in Geneva while demonstrating how local innovation can
contribute to global solutions in agriculture, food systems and emerging
technologies.
