The
Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation (Directorate of Science,
Technology and Innovation Sierra Leone), in partnership with the Sierra Leone
Police (Sierra Leone Police) and Victory Teens Organization (Victory Teens
Organization), has launched a new ICT Training Programme aimed at improving
digital skills among police personnel across the country.
The
initiative is being implemented in Freetown, Kenema and Makeni and is designed
to strengthen foundational ICT competencies, enhance service delivery and
support the broader modernization of policing operations in Sierra Leone.
The
programme follows earlier discussions on the digitization of the Police Human
Resource Management System, which highlighted the need to first build digital
capacity among officers before deploying wider institutional systems.
According
to DSTI Project Manager Tigidankay Bah, the initiative builds on the
government’s broader digital transformation agenda, which has already seen more
than 83,000 citizens trained and certified through national digital learning
programmes over the past five years.
Speaking
on behalf of Victory Teens Organization, Director Madam Florence Finda Lebbie
described the programme as a long-term investment in institutional capacity and
human capital development. She also announced scholarship opportunities and
fully funded ICT and vocational training for eligible officers and their
dependents.
The
first phase of the programme began at the Digital Learning Hub in Makeni, where
more than 40 officers from the Makeni Police Division were introduced to the
Tech 101 curriculum.
Deputy
Inspector General of Police Sahid Umaru Senesie encouraged participants to
fully engage with the training and apply their new skills to improve policing
efficiency and public service delivery.
