The
Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute has successfully concluded a
six-day “AI for Government” training programme aimed at strengthening the
artificial intelligence capabilities of federal government employees.
The
initiative was jointly implemented by the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence
Institute (Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute), Addis Ababa University
(Addis Ababa University), and the United Nations Development Programme (United
Nations Development Programme) under the AI UniPod framework.
The
training programme focused on equipping public sector workers with practical
skills to apply artificial intelligence in government operations, with an
emphasis on improving service delivery, institutional efficiency and innovation
in public administration.
Participants
were introduced to core concepts in artificial intelligence, including
generative AI systems, prompt engineering techniques and applied AI tools for
use in government workflows. The programme also included hands-on sessions
designed to build practical competence in integrating AI solutions into
day-to-day institutional tasks.
Speaking
at the closing ceremony, Deputy Director General Yitagesu Desalegn encouraged
participants to apply the acquired knowledge to enhance productivity and drive
innovation within their respective institutions.
Officials
noted that similar training programmes have already been implemented for
government employees in the Dire Dawa City Administration and the Sidama
National Regional State, with plans underway to expand the initiative
nationwide as part of Ethiopia’s broader digital transformation strategy.
